One of our clients was performing at KC 102.1 Radiothon for Variety the Children's Charity in July of this year at Mission Farms in Leawood, KS. Pickpocket Gene is a corporate keynote speaker who uses his pickpocket skills and close-up magic to illustrate and entertain the complexities of identity theft, personal and corporate safety and security, and travel security.
At the same event, Danny Duffy, an ace pitcher for the Kansas City Royals was on site to visit with Variety families and fans supporting the cause. We suggested that Gene surprise Danny with some of his slight of hand and pickpocket skills. Gene's fun personality and entertaining magic quickly had Danny's interest. Those in attendance enjoyed the show as Pickpocket Gene mesmerized everyone with his unique humor and magic. He even loaded a watch on Danny's wrist without him or the crowd noticing.
We were able to get a few pictures and take some video as the two of them interacted. The video and photos were uploaded to social media immediately after the encounter and Pickpocket Gene's metrics took off. Variety got some great traction too. This wasn't planned in advance, though. The organic encounter created a moment that helped tell the story of Pickpocket Gene. We were able to take advantage of that moment and share what he does while also promoting a wonderful cause.
Social media gives us the opportunity to engage our audiences, but only if we are aware of those opportunities. Always be looking for moments that give you the opportunity to tell your story in a unique and compelling way.
